Every day we have opportunities to make what I call deposits in heaven
“…lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Matt 6:19
Everything we do here on earth affects our eternal life. What we do here determines our rewards in heaven.
“…and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.” 1 cor 3:8b
What that means, loosely speaking is – when you do what’s right you get a reward in heaven.
Smile at a stranger – reward in heaven
Read your bible – deposit in heaven
Pray for a friend – treasure in heaven
Help one in need – treasure in heaven
Now here’s the really good news – when you don’t do the right thing…or even when you do the wrong thing – God does not remove any of the deposits you’ve made. Every single treasure we have stored up will be waiting for us…what does God do with our sins? He forgives those who repent…
“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” Acts 3:19
Not only does God forgive and forget, but He wants to refresh us with His presence!
Every day we have opportunity to store up treasures in heaven.
God’s challenge to us today, this week and for the rest of our lives is; watch for opportunities to make deposits in heaven…and make your life here on earth a little sweeter in the process.
