First stop - the Giraffe Center, where we fed this female...she was a bit slobbery and though Debi was a trooper she felt compelled to wash her hands right away!
| Great shot of the building where the giraffes come to 'feed' |
| Former mansion, currently a luxurious inn where the giraffes come right up to the windows |
| And the warthogs! |
| We were fascinated with the way they get on their knees to eat |
Then on to the elephant orphanage...
First they bring out the youngest ones...we missed the feeding of this group...
| The baby of the group |
I love to watch them play in the water/mud!
| See the bottles in his hands |
This trainer was prodding the baby just as a mother elephant prods with her trunk...
| The older ones are now coming. |
...and feeding!
What a treat! These are two friends from Missions of Hope where I work...I didn't know they would be there...
| Shelby, me and Justine |
| Resident rhi |
Then on to lunch at this fine restaurant near the Karen Blixen museum...
Yum! The food was so good...and our driver, Francis was also given lunch :)
The Karen Blixen museum...she is the one whose story became the move "Out of Africa"...This was her home during part of the time she lived in Kenya
We took a tour through the house (part of the movie was filmed here) and then wandered around the grounds...
| The back of the house |
| Kazuri bead factory |
We stopped at the Kazuri bead factory, but it was already closed so we were not able to take that tour.
| Roadside furniture shopping... |
A fun and full day that we thoroughly enjoyed...it is fun to sort of 'relive' her visit as I post these entries!
