"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

A Christ Honoring Life - Lesson 2...

We began a new series two weeks ago...I missed the first lesson, which was the introduction and foundational teaching because my girl and I went on Safari!  This second week was entitled "Honoring God Through Decisions".

Rose hobbled to class with what we now know was a fractured ankle and did a fabulous job teaching!  As you can see, Amanda came with me!  We always begin with a time of praise and worship...
Christine, Rose, Susan, Josephine and Amanda
...followed by a short word of encouragement from Susan...
She shared from Jeremiah 13:11 stressing that God wants us to "cling" to Him...
Sellah (new to me!) came during Susan's devotion
We have several new members I met this week...one is Sellah...
I met Felistah last year at Rachel's house, but she has not attended regularly...
Felistah and Gloria
Rose reviewed the previous week's lesson by asking all the ladies to share their answers to the homework questions...
Amanda and Valary
Then she taught us that every day we make decisions; decisions that can impact the course our lives will take.
Patricia, Felistah and Jacinta
First main point: You can and will make decisions.  Jesus asks us to make choices and decisions for Him and against sin.
Valary and Patricia
God wants us to choose obedience...too often we blame God for the consequences of the bad decisions we make.
I love that Christine helps with photos! (that's me by the way)
Leona in the foreground
In Deuteronomy 30:19-20 God sets before Moses and the Israelites life and death/blessings and curses and challenges them (and us!) to choose life!
In Joshua 24:15 we read "But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Salome, crippled in an accident, has her special chair
And Jesus in Matthew 4:17 says "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near"
Leona, beautiful servant, helps Salome sign in
Every day we are given opportunities to choose; blessings or curses, life or death, God or ....
Two new ladies - I will learn their names!
Rose, excellent teacher/faithful servant
Second main point: All decisions have consequences; whether large or small, important or insignificant there are always consequences...
Josephine reading from Deuteronomy
Third main point: We are all free to make choices, but we are not free to choose the consequences of our choices.
Christine; natural leader/great student
We must take responsibility for our choices.  Only then can God enter into our circumstances and either change them, or show His glory in the midst of them...
Deep in thought!
Leona's thinking face!
Patricia posing her question/dilemma
Rose, as she often does, used her own life to illustrate a point.  She shared with the ladies about her very difficult decision to end her marriage...
Rose's teaching face
All the ladies were quite attentive!
Patricia had questions about her own marriage of 39 years.  The marriage is good, but the in-laws still have not accepted her because she comes from a different tribe...
Encouragement
Rose encouraged Patricia to stick with her husband and even distance herself from the in-laws, rather than allowing the in-laws to ruin the marriage.
Attention
Exhortation
Josephine (also a pastor) suggested that just as Abraham moved his family away from their home perhaps Patricia's husband needed to move his family away from his home in order to weaken the influence of the in-laws...
Group shot!  Thanks Christine
I began to realize that marriage, divorce and remarriage is an important and critical topic among these ladies...
There I am...thanks again Christine!
...Rose, Susan and I will plan carefully as we move into those lessons in this series!
After a brief introduction of my daughter we moved into prayer requests and praises...

Salome sharing an insight

listening to prayer requests
We had a sweet time of praise and worship followed by corporate prayer...
...then hugs and greetings all around!
Sellah with Amanda, Josephine with Valary

Me packing my bag...
I love that Josephine is holding onto Amanda in this shot!
Salome greeting Amanda...all smiles

Josephine reaching out...

I love this lady!  (that's Susan)
Amanda enjoyed Rose's teaching saying that she has "good insights".  I was happy for my dear friends to finally meet her!

Three days of fun, fellowship and food!

We arrived on Thursday the 3rd around 2pm...Vida was not too sure of us!  But Tom greeted us with his warm embracing smile...
Vida and Tom
Very shortly there appeared trays and containers of food...yum!
Talapia, ugali, sukuma wiki (greens) and chapati
Our driver (and friend) Maxwell enjoying Susan's (Tom's mom) hospitality...
Amanda goofing around...this mound was sort of an accident, but fun to climb on...
The cat with no name, but is call Puss...hmmm...she is a total sweetheart and loves being petted - she and Amanda bonded...
The Posho Mill...Susan purchased this machine for people in the community to grind their maize to make ugali, which is a staple food...for a fee of course!  She is quite industrious...
Neighbor lady demonstrating how it works...
Elly (Tom's smallest brother) learned this game in Kisumu (where he lives with his aunt and goes to school)...
It is somehow based on soccer (football here)
Vida kep pulling up the goal post...
...and of course Amanda had to give it a try - I love the way she just jumps in...
She learned that it is not as easy as it looks!
On Friday we picked up Collins from where he teaches...
...of course I had to take a shot of these cuties!
Then we went to Collins' house...
 ...and played Hand & Foot!

 Don't they look cute together?
Tom (above) and Collins (below) lamenting the beatings they are receiving from Amanda...
Okay - these pictures were posed, but you can see the glee on her face and the dismay on theirs!
Friends already, I love this shot of Amanda and Tom...
Collins in front of his place...
On the way to visit Collins' mom it began to rain...rain and dirt make mud...mud is not compatible for driving!
So we stopped and had to walk the rest of the way...but I only had sandals so Tom loaned me his shoes!
Maxwell waiting with Tom and me for Collins to bring shoes from home for Tom...
Trek to Min Collins home (Min is Mama in the Luo language)
Just to give you an idea of what we faced...you can see the home at the end of the lane
Here I am wearing Collins' jacket (yes it was cold!) and Tom's shoes...they are such good boys!
Min Collins' home was very comfortable and welcoming...
Fridah loves Collins.  When she heard Collins was coming she made her big sister bring her...
...and then food was served...what a feast!
I forgot to take the picture before I dug in...chapati, ugali, greens, beef and chicken...
Amanda and Tom having a serious talk...that is her "oh really?" or "yeah right" face...
Collins answering a message for Tom...those boys are close as brothers!!!
Collins with his mom...isn't the view amazing?
His sisters joined them - and of course Fridah!
She DID NOT want him to leave...
Then we got stuck in the mud on the way out...but that's another entry...we got unstuck and then returned to Susan's in time for dinner...then the next morning we started another game...
...but had to pause for breakfast...I love the look on Amanda's face as Tom helps her wash her hands.
Just chillaxin' over tea and chapati...
Collins must have grabbed my camera...
I love this shot of Amanda...she seems so relaxed and happy...
Parting shot...Tom's grandmother, aunt, mother, brother, uncle and friends!
We had a great visit and are so glad we went...and we made a new friend as Maxwell was with us throughout!
