"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Visiting with the kids from St. Catherine's...

...they seemed a bit subdued today.  I suspect it has to do with the fact that very soon their lives will be disrupted...again!  I say again because every one of these kids has lost at least one parent and has already faced upheaval in their young lives.

Before mid-August every building with a red X on it will be demolished...that includes the building which houses the church and school where these kids attend.  Also the dorms where they live will be reduced - again...all so that an access road can be built.  The road is a good thing, but it breaks my heart to know how many lives will be uprooted...
X marks the buildings to be demolished; businesses, homes, lives...
While we were visiting two times vehicles with loudspeakers came through to 'remind' the residents that they have a few short weeks until demolition begins...I can only imagine how that impacts these kids...seems a bit like torture to me!
Just outside the classroom...
Sorry the photos are so blurry - I forgot my camera!  and so had to use my phone...
L to R: Faith, Dorice, Felix and Jessica
We worked on the discipling material, asked and answered questions...but they seemed reluctant to talk about what was about to happen in and to their community...
Jessica and Jane
I must be satisfied with the idea that having someone from the outside spend time with them, caring about them and listening to them was enough...
Reading her Bible is Sharon
...but I have to admit that as I walked away I carried the heavy feeling that I could have done so much more to help ease their burden...though even now I am not sure what that might have been...
We studied together...
...and life goes on...as they said when I asked "what is going to happen?" - "only God knows"...and that is a glorious truth we can hold onto, anchor ourselves in and stand on!

Today we talked about Sacrificial Giving...

The lesson for today was entitled "Giving Generously" but the main point of the teaching was all about sacrificial giving...we learned 15 aspects of what sacrificial giving is all about...

Of course we began the morning with our usual praise and worship, after an excellent word of encouragement from Susan based on Gen 22:1-19 - her mini-teachings always encourage me so much!
Leona (on the right) is new, but a committed and faithful member
Josephine came as we were singing
Then I did a short teaching to answer two questions from last week on first fruits and on where we should be paying our tithe...even though I am NOT a teacher, I have to admit I did enjoy sharing my thoughts about this very important topic!
Rose did an excellent job of running us through the 15 points about sacrificial giving.  It is: a response to God's grace, not based on circumstances, based on your ability, a privilege, always puts God first, a sign of spiritual maturity, reflects the example of Christ...
Rose and Susan
...includes both desire and action, based on what you have, seeks equality among Christians, honors the Lord, sensitive to the way the gift is given, given freely, gives others a reason to thank God as needs are met.
Today's lesson is from 2Cor 8 & 9, which includes the story of the generosity of the Macedonian church...they begged for the privilege to share with others...that really challenged me!
Leona
When was the last time I begged to be able to give?  Truly that is a challenge for me!
This girl really blesses me!
In fact I shared a personal struggle...I am not a cheerful giver!  I asked the ladies to help me see how to become cheerful in my giving...even beg for the privilege to be able to give!
We met in a small classroom today
I was really encouraged and we all agreed that it is only the grace of God that can enable us to give that freely...amen!
You can see the posters on the walls
Then several of us shared stories from our lives as examples of one or more of the points on sacrificial giving...Then Leona shared about the work she does for her church...sometimes she wonders if people even notice that she arrives early every Sunday, sets the chairs and makes sure all is ready for the service.
Susan encouraged her to remember that God sees, and He knows what she does...
Josephine shared that discouragement is always there...there will even be people in our lives who try to discourage us...
She told a story that got us all laughing!  She is so outspoken...I just love her!
We could have talked for the rest of the day...but time was moving and it was time for prayers...
There were requests for prayer and thanksgivings for answered prayer...
Leona asked us to pray for revival in the church...it is as though we are sleeping!
Then Leona led us in worship - she is such a great servant in the Kingdom!
I just love hearing all of our voices lifted to God in worship and petition...
Leona then closed our meeting with a passionate prayer over all the requests...
We like to end by saying the Grace...and we just feel together...
Then our debrief!  Here we are after lunch - we always enjoy spending time reflecting on the meeting and planning for the next week...
Only one picture of me because Christine (my photo assistant) was traveling...

Father's Day and Life Community Church...

Sunday was Father's Day.  Pastor Mark gave a great message, primarily addressed to fathers, but points that will enrich any relationship so relevant to all!  Then he asked all the fathers to stand...
I loved seeing the wives supporting and praying for their husbands
...he then invited wives to stand with their husbands during a time of prayer...
Doris and Peter, in the back is Stella and Kenji
...some wives were not present, but I believe the dads were blessed by the prayers anyway!
Joseph without Nancy...
Meanwhile Tashy (one of my favorite church kids) was helping his class by retrieving cups for juice.
Tashy counting cups, son to Stella and Kenji
There is just something about the way Ben collects
I couldn't resist a couple of shots of Ben collecting the offering...*smile*
This was also Leader Sunday...a time to celebrate the leaders of our Life Groups...first honoring the two apprentices for their diligence and commitment over the past year...
Mark, Eric, Ndung'u, Barnabas and Kevin
Eric and Kevin are now going to co-lead the men's Life Group...
Kevin receiving his certificate
Each of them said a few words to share about their experience of learning to be a leader...
Eric saying a few words
Kevin inviting others to step forward to serve at LCC
Pastor Mark then brought up the ladies Life Group leaders...first Doris who will lead the ladies group...
...then Kathryn who will be her apprentice...
...then he brought me up since I will be coaching Doris...
Joseph (to the right) will be an apprentice
Not sure what Pastor Mark said, but it was obviously funny!
It was a sweet time of prayer as Mark asked God to bless all of us even as we walk into our respective leadership roles...
Edward and Lucas will also be apprentices but were not with us
Then there was tea!  Remember Ben...he is first in line here, getting his tea!
It has been a while since I carried my camera to church...but I do enjoy looking at the pictures!

Meeting Fannuala Baraka!

Last Sunday Bev took me to visit with Emilly and the kids...and meet Fannuala Baraka - the newest member of their family...this was a tough shot to get, but I wanted all three kids together...
Charlie, Fannuala and Fiona
He had his eyes opened almost the whole visit...he was 13 days old in these photos.
Then Bev grabbed the camera and got a couple of shots of me with him...
He looks so cute here!
Aunt Bev with her newest nephew!
Emilly in her kitchen preparing us lunch...how did I possibly think I could just slip in and out without making her work!?
I wanted to get a profile shot...
He was getting hungry and sleepy...
Lunch time...yum!  Eggs, vegetables and ugali...
Charlie and Fiona
Emilly sharing the grapes I brought for her...
 Bev's brother Vincent stopped by...
His neighbor's boy loved the baby...sweet photo!
 Sleepy baby...
What a sweetheart he is!
