"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Weeks 3 and 4 of ECL

Week 3 on the 17th of March - the focus was on "Recalibrating Your Relationship to God"...but first - we reviewed week 2 and listened to questions, comments and impressions from the group...
Mercy, Corrinne, William - with Daniella on the couch
This class is quite lively; with lots to say...
Here the students are flipping through their books to last week's lesson and homework...
The current week's teaching always begins with a short lesson about worship and especially how it occurs within the cell group...
Attentive students!
Kay Kay is a new believer and has so many questions...here he is expressing his bewilderment about the purpose of singing our worship to God...I love how willing he is to be candid with his questions!
Here Pastor Mark is praying to help soften our hearts and open our minds to the Lord...
...then we enjoyed a powerful and refreshing time of worship!
God's people expressing their devotion; each in their own individual way!
We learned that relationships are the highest value for God...so we relate to him through his Word, through Prayer and through Covenant...I love watching each student soak in these truths as many of them unlearn old beliefs and relearn a new way of seeing.
Mercy, a college student, is the youngest member of the class
Week 4!  Relating Through the Cross; Recalibrating Conflict Resolution...
Back: Kay Kay, Mercy, Daniella  Front: William and Roger
Our review/question/comments time was spent discussing the sacrament of the Lord's Supper, or Communion...
William and Roger
Kay Kay and Mercy
Then our students were thoroughly challenged by the teaching on Conflict Resolution...especially when Pastor Mark spoke of laying down our personal agenda in order to follow Christ's agenda, which is essential for unity in the Life Group as well as in all relationships...
The whole class!
The discussion became quite lively and eye-opening when Pastor Mark spoke directly to the 'marrieds' in the room...reactions ranged from "but, if I set aside my agenda then what am I contributing to the relationship?"...
...to "the word 'conflict' puts butterflies in my stomach!"...
Peter is contemplating...
Needless to say, each person left with much to think about and process during the coming week!

"The Power of Doing Good"

Our final lesson in the series "Understanding the Church" was all about the power of doing good...WOW!

We began with a word of encouragement from Susan - she shared from Phil 2:8 - I love the way Susan draws us gently into scripture and softens our hearts to receive the teachings that Rose so faithfully shares each week...
Florence, Mauryne and Susan
Rose shared 4 powerful consequences of doing good...First is that doing good allows Jesus to love others through us...
Leona and Rose
Here Susan is reading the passage from Gal 2:20
Florence reading Matt 25:31-40 - both of these passages show us that Jesus sees a compassionate act demonstrated to someone in need as an act of service to Himself!
See the workers in the background?
Rose shared that there are people placed into our community because we are to serve them - I had never thought of it that way before!
Second - Doing good makes Christ attractive to the world.
Group shot!
When we serve others people are drawn to God and see Him as one who is approachable, one who cares and loves...
We were a bit challenged by the noise being made by these workers as they 'beautify' the church where we meet each week!
They made much progress while we were there!
Leona's thinking face...
Mauryne read from Matt 5:14-16 in which we are told to "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven"
Third - Doing good protects our reputation and empowers our witness...
Leona reading 1Peter 2:12
When we serve the needs of those who are unbelievers, it changes how they see us and how they listen to us...
Elida
Salome
Fourth - Doing good benefits society by overcoming the effects of evil and sin...
Rose reading Titus 3:8
...we can actually overpower evil by doing good works in the place where evil exists...
...by doing good we actually can change the spiritual climate of a region...Christ wants the power of service and His love to overcome the power of evil.
Susan taking prayer requests
We then spent a few minutes hearing from the ladies of thanksgivings/answered prayer and prayer requests...
Rose writing prayer requests
Okay - I got distracted!  This guy is mixing cement on the floor...for placing more tiles...
We then spent time praying individually for all the needs presented earlier...
Then Leona lead us with a worship song and closed our time of prayer...
Here Susan is finding a past lesson for Mauryne...
These toilets are such an improvement over the childrens' toilets we used to use that I just had to take some shots...
We then walked down the road to our new favorite spot to share a meal, debrief about today's meeting and plan for our final meeting and celebration next week!

Second week of Exploring Community Life

The emphasis this week was on "Cell Biology"; drawing on analogies of the importance of the cell to the human body Pastor Mark taught about how our Life Groups (or cell groups) are vital to the health of our church.
Pastor Mark
In front: Judy, Mercy and Roger joined us this week
First - any insights, comments, questions from the homework...
Each week the students are given 5 days of work to help deepen and solidify what is taught...
Daniella spoke of new insights from a very familiar scripture in Is 61...she shared that her eyes are being opened to the truth of scripture in a whole new way...
Kay Kay and Daniella are siblings
Peter was amazed to read about the early church freely sharing all they possessed with each other and wondered out loud if that is possible today...
Kay Kay, a new believer, is soaking it all in!
We enjoyed a lively evening of learning, discussing, and getting to know each other better!
