"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Medical Clinic at St. Catherine's Church in Kibera Slum

We arrived at 8am to find the kids moving mattresses to the doctor's 'offices'
Up the stairs...
On Saturday the 23rd of June the Compassion Ministry of Life Community Church hosted a one day medical clinic to benefit the students of St. Catherine's School (25 of whom are orphans living in St. Catherine's Orphanage)
Doctor's office #1

View through the window

Eager kids arriving to wait their turns

Bigger kids carry chairs from the school and orphanage down the road

A view of the community

Waiting area for the pharmacy (although it was rearranged by the pharmacist!)
Meanwhile in the church sanctuary the teachers are handing out booklets with each child's name to carry to the clinic
Lady with the head wrap is Teresa, the head teacher

Les, me and Twyla (the clown!) sorting name badges

Gotta love the shoes!
Zippy Wanjala is head of our Compassion Ministries.  She did a great job organizing this event!
Yea Zippy's here!
Ndungu and Pastor Mark greeted by the wife of Pastor James who runs the school and orphanage

Joining the group are (l to r) Irene, Nyambura and Jane (not including the lady with the baby!)
Twyla the clown greeting Nyambura - great pic of the sign :)
Gathering in the pharmacy to begin set up are some of the kids who helped along with a few adults
I loved the way Les was interacting with these kids!
Denise was assigned to assist Louise, our pharmacist...
Notice the smoke coming through the window?
From the kitchen below!

Fortunately it lasted only a few minutes!
Tia (who was my assistant) and Natasha
This is the triage area.  Here Denise is showing Irene how to use the special thermometer
You move it from temple to temple and it reads immediately!

Oops!  It reads Fahrenheit instead of Celsius!
We wrote out a conversion chart which the triage team used very effectively all day!  Next was the explanation for the blood pressure cuff...it goes on the wrist and reads quickly - not sure it was used much since most of our patients were small children!

These were two of several medical supplies Denise was able to purchase for our new ministry with funds generously contributed by friends in the US!
Pastor Mark gathers all the workers for a quick word of prayer...

Work assignments organized by Zippy and posted to the wall
Putting pills in envelopes and labeling
Clockwise from left are Pauline, Louise, Denise and Jane
The teachers organized the kids in groups of 10...
First round of 10 kids...
Waiting room - triage and doctor's offices to the left, pharmacy to the right

Pic of me taken by Tia (my assistant)

Irene teaching her helpers how to weigh...

...and measure the kids!

Community lady - I loved watching life happen
Twyla the clown walking to the toilet...precarious!

Ndungu, Les and Barnabas on the veranda

Kids waiting with their booklets

Nyambura preparing the de-worming station
Pastor Mark alerted me to the pigs in the river...

Two pigs in the garbage...

Dr. Dennis arrived!

I was impressed with the system the triage team developed to move the kids swiftly through. Irene is in the background taking temps, Catherine (in the gray hoodie) is 'translating' into celcius and she and Grace (to the right) are recording all the stats in the children's books.

After seeing the doctor and getting necessary meds, each kid was prayed over by several of our pastors!

Our Life Kids chillaxing

Filling prescriptions
The little girl below was so scared! and just crying...
Barnabas knelt down to her level, put is hand on her tummy and just started praying for her...
...and was rewarded with the sweetest smile!
Twyla the clown was loving on the kids, but scared some of them (like the little girl earlier)
Showing him her handiwork :)

Pauline and her little one - precious!
Ndungu praying with a little girl as Shekinah looks on

Sweet!

Shekinah assisting Twyla the clown
You can see part of her face in the mirror

Twyla's face holds many expressions!

Kids with their meds and their painted faces...
These guys were taken with the clown :)

Tia helping the clown with the mirror

While Shekinah handed out sweets
Jumping over the drainage ditch...

Community kids...

Taken through the pharmacy window...

Looking at the clown!

Picture of me taking a picture of Denise!
Being the official photographer!

Jane was doing 'traffic control' leading the kids from the waiting area to the doctors offices...
Doctor's office number 2 had two doctors the first half of the day and three the second half

Jane did a great job!
Doctor's office #1 was filled with nurses who treated many children
This is Dr. Emily who came about halfway through the day...
She had a great 'bedside' manner...
...and was wonderful with the kids!

They felt so at ease with her...

Jane gently leading the way

Yes, Les was praying too!
Great shot of all three pastors praying at the same time...much ministry was done this day!
Head teacher Teresa chatting with Pastor Mark and one of the students
Queue at the pharmacy!

I love this face...
This girl had the sweetest expression on her face as Eric was praying with her...
 One happy painted face!
Can you tell Barnabas loves kids?

Eric shared with me that he LOVED ministering to these kids

Pastor Mark making sure all is going well 'on the ground'
See the books on the back of the car?
Even the teachers received physical and spiritual care...
Kids playing in the trash (and probably collecting 'valuables')
These kids caught me shooting their picture and were delighted :)

Just hangin' out after the clinic ended...and after working hard!
Pastor Mark addressing the group
He called all the workers together to appreciate us...
...introduce Zippy and end the day with a prayer of thanksgiving.
This next series is of local kids who will be future acrobats!  If you look closely you will see at least one flying through the air in each pic.

This kid (with the green sleeves) is preparing the jump

Denise and I ended the day with a visit to the school which also houses 6 of the 8 orphan boys.

It was a wonderful day and first medical clinic for Life Community Church.  I suspect it was the first of many!
