"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Teaching at St. Catherine's Children's Home

My first time to see the kids since we all went to the youth camp back in August...I have missed them!  This week Denise taught session 3 of the current teaching entitled "A God Directed Life".  The kids had really been inspired by the teachings at the camp and wanted to learn more about how to hear from God and how to serve Him.
Session 1 was "Knowing the God Who Speaks" and included why hearing God is important and exploring the attributes of God.
For homework each student was given an envelope containing a small amount of money.  They were to pray about how to use the money and be prepared to report back during the next lesson two weeks later...
Session 2 is entitled "How Does God Speak and How Should I Respond?"...the study began with the reports from session 1 homework.  Wow!  The reports ranged from hearing from God in dreams, to sensing during an incident, to answered prayer...all the way to "I ate mine"...
Each response helped the kids learn about how God speaks as well as how to be faithful to respond to what He is saying.  I could only imagine the thrill the kids felt when they actually heard from God and were able to share about it...
Today's lesson was entitled "Why Can't I Seem to Hear God?"...we explored 10 reasons...
God is testing us (Jesus was tested in the wilderness), God is teaching us (story of Lazarus being raised from the dead), we are in a spiritual battle (answer to Daniel's prayer delayed 21 days while the angel was doing spiritual battle)
Wrong priorities (Martha was distracted by many things), wrong understanding of God (we think He cannot be trusted), not knowing our identity in Christ (Jesus calls us friends)
Neglecting the Word of God (directs us, keeps us, renews our minds), unbelief (I believe, help my unbelief), undealt with sin (being hearers only and not do-ers of His Word), fear (perfect love casts out fear)
Good questions were raised; did Jesus make mistakes - even though He was tempted, He never sinned...what did He use as a weapon against Satan in the desert - the word of God...
Another question raised a discussion on choosing the best over the good.  While it is good to read God's word every day...if we have made a commitment or promise to be somewhere but get caught up in reading His word and neglect our commitment, that is choosing what is good over what is better because we have failed to keep our word to another person and to God.
...the Word of God is our best weapon against the wiles of the enemy...that is one reason why it is important to read the Bible every day.
I am impressed with how eager the kids are to read out loud and I know they are growing in their relationship with the Lord.
The last time Denise was with the kids she had some dance instructors visit to teach the kids a dance routine and share a word of encouragement.  She gave out the lesson for this week so the kids could read in advance...
We were so encouraged to discover that most of them had not only read the lesson, but had answered the questions and even completed the homework!
Here the kids are clapping for themselves...good job!
Since so many had done the lesson ahead of time, Denise asked if it would be helpful to receive the lessons in advance in the future...yep!

We talked about God's word being critical to block the hindrances to our ability to hear God's voice - she read several scripture passages she has written in her Bible...passages that have encouraged her through many challenges in her life...
After the lesson she asked the kids if there were any questions...Miriam, an excellent student, asked what the word "traits" means...the question on the handout was "List 3 to 5 character traits of God" which opened up a discussion about the importance of being very clear about who God is to help us hear His voice...thanks Miriam for being willing to ask!
Homework question: Which of the hindrances may be present in your life...many of the kids answered 'fear' so Denise asked how many saw that as a hindrance...
We ended the meeting in prayer...Evans, in the blue shirt, loves to lead us in prayer and I do believe he has the gift of prayer!
What a privilege it is for me to be even a small part of what God is doing in the lives of these precious young people!

Sunday at church...

First the Early Birds!  We meet at 8 and class starts at 8:30...Tina organized this group shot - what a great idea!
Then I spoke...when I opened my Bible to pull out my talk - it was the 'wrong' one!  I had really prayed that God would show me what to say and Sherry from the party on Saturday assured me that if I opened my mouth the Holy Spirit would give me the words...I believe that is what happened!
I gave an overview of my journey to Kenya (starting with the Swaziland trip in 2005), with an emphasis on a key relationship that was formed when I first moved there in 2008...
...ending with the work I am currently doing - then I read from Eph 4 and shared that when God calls us He does not ask our permission or even how we feel about it...He is looking for obedient hearts, hearts full of love for Him...opening line for the talk I had planned to do was "God doesn't care how we feel"
I took this shot in church because Tim was amazing!  He sang two songs, and it was apparent that he is a worship leader...I sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit and was so blessed by his ministry...
Bobby conducted a brief interview with Tim before his sermon...
After church I visited the Christian Life Class...I could not leave the US without seeing these special friends!
Kay (in the black) and her husband Greg are the ones I am closest to
We enjoyed a sweet duet of Jesus Loves Me with Donna on the keyboard and Jim on a xylophone - it was such fun!!
I think he's done!
This lovely couple, Yvonne and Eric Rasmussen, graciously shared their song book with me!
Paul is the pastor/teacher...he is a bit dry but does an excellent job and I am always edified
It was so good to see that the class is growing - I counted 20 people...at one time they feared the class would not continue, but they courageously agreed that even if they were only 3 they would still meet because where 2 or more are gathered in His name He is among them...I love that about this class!

Partying with friends...great fun!

The Early Bird Bible Study (EBBS) used my visit as an excuse to have a party!  What a blessing it was to gather on Saturday to just hang out with friends...
Me and Louise Dunn
June and Harold Leach - our hosts!
Louise (in the first picture) has been a friend for years and "walked with me" in 2006 while God was "preparing" me to move to Kenya!  She was one of 350 "missionaries" who went to Swaziland in 2005 with the Crystal Cathedral and Hour of Power "family"
Hai Joo Hahn and Carol Bishop
The man next to me in this picture is husband to one of our members...what a delight to have him visit as he does not attend church...
Al Lee, Mick Holdsworth and me...
Al and his wife Tina also went to Swaziland...
James Burnell is a character
We mostly spent time chatting...we get way too little time for that on Sunday mornings...
Wanda is James' sister
...so it is always nice when we manage to gather together for a social event...
Carol Mills, Sally Holdsworth (wife to Mick above) and Carol Bishop
I tried to "make the rounds" which was much easier to do since my dear friend Tina agreed to be my photographer - what a treat to not have to think about that!
Sherry Sowers
Harold was one of my 'team' of missionaries who spent two weeks in Tanzania back in 2008 - what a gentle man he is...
Jim and Janice Brennan with our host Harold
Gudelia Ramirez, Alex (my mom), Janice, and Lorena Moulin
Barbara (below), along with Gudelia (above) are very close friends of my mom...
Barbara Powell and Marlene Hoops
Gudelia also went to Swaziland back in 2005...
Al, Jerry Thomas, and Harold
Our chefs!  Someone brought these In and Out hats...not sure why Harold was given a pass - maybe because it was his house??
Jerry said this collection of women reminded him of a 'hen party'...hmmm...not sure what to think about that one!
Mick and Al chatting, Harold and Al cooking, Jerry supervising!
People brought awesome dishes; cornbread, beans, salads...and the guys grilled burgers
Tina (below) was behind two cameras...so this is the only shot of her - sorry it is blurry!
Hae Joo and Tina Lee
Normally I am the one behind the camera...I asked Tina to do what I often do for my friend Twyla (fellow missionary in Kenya) - that is, shoot with two cameras; hers and mine!
during dessert I took a second helping of food!
 Chatting at the dinner table...
Gudelia and my mom...
The dessert that prompted a proposal of marriage by Jerry!  What a moment!
Marlene brought this amazing dessert - no I did not have any
Mom and I had another engagement so left just before the games began...Tina organized the games and she does such a good job I am sorry we missed them, but we had a great time anyway!
