"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

BDS Client training...

Every other month we conduct a two-day intensive training for all of our newest clients.  In addition to 8 weeks of training and learning within their accountability group, each client is also required to attend this training in order to be eligible for their first loan.  We believe it is not enough to just loan money; we believe it is essential to do all we can to ensure that our clients succeed and therefore begin to realize their dreams for a better future.  Please walk with me now thru this first day...
Ryan is assisting with registration of our clients...
Having been raised in Kenya for his first 14 years, Ryan speaks enough Swahili to be able to communicate with our clients, many of whom know little or no English.
...while David takes their photo!
The photo is so that we can place each of these clients onto our website BigDent in order for people who want to be involved in the transformation of lives to sponsor their loans.
They wait so patiently!

The church building where the training is being held...St Judes Anglican Church of Kenya.
Carolyne...a few minutes late :) but eager to work.
Ryan receiving help from Opiyo and Samuel :)

Meanwhile Sarah leads our 'early birds' in praise and worship

with assistance from Francis

I think they like starting the day this way!
Steve blesses us with a word of encouragement from John 5:1-9
But - since he was speaking Swahili I am not sure what his message was!

You will see several mtoto (baby) photos

Wazungu!!!  (white people)

Posing for her photo

Many of our clients came with their Bibles

Francis leads this session on Expectations and Introductions
He covered our expectations for our clients during this two days, their expectations of us and the training, and also introducing the staff in attendance that first day...

An energizer...spelling COCONUT with their bodies
So much fun!

Here they are adding 1+1=2, 2+2=4, 4+4=8...I think this is the 4

The equal sign

The 8...okay I think they're warmed up and relaxed now!

Program for the two days
Topics include; Group Dynamics, Doing Business Successfully/Marketing, Integrity for the first day.
Samuel teaching on Group Dynamics
Overflow crowd...but intent on learning...
Group Dynamics is vitally important since each client is a member of an accountability group.  There are stages every group passes thru and the more each member understands and knows how to manage the stages, the more successful the group and therefore the client, will be.
Tea has arrived!!! Ryan is definitely a helpful guy, but he was also desperate for tea!

Local color...just outside the gate...the man on the bike is crippled and uses his hands to pedal.

Setting up for tea...
This is tricky since we don't know exactly when the clients will come down from the training...we want to have some tea poured, but it has to be hot...delicate balance!
Mandazis (like donuts) made by one of our groups, City Champions, that has started a group business!

Juliana (Katini) has an innovative idea for how to serve the mandazi

Pull the lining out of the bag...

...place it in the basket...

voila!

SOME of us waited until our clients could be served!!!  But not these two.

I think she found a treasure in the trash...

...and he is looking for treasure...probably looking for items to sell
Okay...we're ready - bring 'em on!

And here they come!

Another treasure hunter...

These guys are an awesome team!
Another energizer...remember what number this is?

Francis teaching Doing Business Successfully/Marketing

But he warms the crowd up first...

Francis making a very important point :)

This little guy was fascinated by and wary of me all day
Crowd shot...

Enjoying a mango

Samuel and Steve...David queuing for mango in the background

David enjoying his mango

From the upstairs window...I love watching life happen

Sweet picture...

Katini teaching on Integrity

The mtoto woke up...receiving medicine now...
She talks about having integrity and 'being a friend of God' and draws examples from the Bible
She was also able to conduct an object lesson.  She had found 10 bob (10 shillings) downstairs.  I remembered who had dropped some coins during registration and we got her name - Josephine...during the course of teaching she held it up and asked who had lost it...only Josephine raised her hand - all the others were honest enough to not claim it was theirs.  She was then able to say - that's integrity!

After the activity of registration and tea, it can be pretty boring for the wazungu!

Samuel sought the assistance of one of our clients to help him help the group show their appreciation to Katini for her awesome teaching!

End of Day One...Samuel recaps all the teachings and takes questions
