After praise and worship Denise conducted a brief review of the previous four lessons...
...ending with our five-part 'declaration of faith'...Nancy is doing the 'hand signs' in the foreground.Listening to Denise's intro teaching to set up today's lesson. She is asking the ladies what they think of when reading the scripture that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us...
The ladies have a good grasp on the truth of the scripture...it does NOT mean Christ can help us get a vehicle, or win the lottery or receive a million shillings...
Lucy using Rachel's Swahili Bible to read the scripture in Swahili...we try to do both each week.
This week's activity included blind-folds...Nancy (in the blue) kept repeating "I've played this game before and I DO NOT like it!"...lucky for her we had one extra lady so she was free to just watch ;)
Denise brought the other half of the ladies in to partner with the "blind" ladies...
The "leaders" come in and are paired with their "blind" partners...
The "leaders" were to guide the "blind" ones on a predetermined course...they followed me outside...
...here Patricia is in the lead and is actually pulling her 'charge' (Eliphine)...she looks pretty determined!
I led them from the side door around to the front door of the church...
Coming into the front door...now Patricia is helping Eliphine over the stoop...
Pulling her over the bench! Serah is studying Patricia's technique as she anticipates helping Stella...
It was fascinating to watch how they worked thru this exercise!
Well done Serah...behind them are Elida and Dorothy...Elida is the leader and looks a bit concerned!
I think right after this the bench fell over!
That's Elida's son holding the bench steady...as soon as it toppled over he rushed in to right it - what a sweetheart!
Moving thru the obstacle course...while Nancy makes herself valuable by holding little Elijah :)
The leaders take their ladies back to the starting point...
Then an ongoing discussion about the experience...
...from the perspective of the 'blind person'...
...and from the perspective of the leader person...
Elijah found a chair just his size!
Patricia describing how exhausting it was to pull Eliphine
...Serah making application to how Jesus leads us...
All the ladies applauding themselves for a job well done!
After a short teaching we had them break into small groups to look up scriptures...
handsome boy :)
...for each scripture they were to answer the question "What is God's will in this passage?"
I love watching them pouring over their Bibles...
...and working together to accomplish the task...
Dorothy helping Rachel who only completed 3rd grade...
Patricia struggled to understand how to answer the question with the passages...it was awesome to see the 'light bulb' go on after I walked her thru the exercise...
Serah (to the far right) was a bit frustrated about the process because we had asked them to draw a slip which contained the scripture reference so that each lady could do 2 or 3 and then share their answers rather than each lady doing all 10...
But we discovered that really they work better interdependently rather than independently - so we will definitely change our approach for the future!
Eventually Denise was able to help Serah understand!
Then she worked with Elida...
Playing in his mom's stuff!
Denise working with Sarah
Serah helping Valerie (a guest)
Clockwise from right: Dorothy, Lucy, Stella and Nancy
Then Denise spent some time going over the answers and teaching briefly on a few of them...
Leni, Dorothy, Patricia and Valerie
Denise wrapping up the teaching
Here Dorothy is saying that "the eyes of the Lord are upon us. It is no mistake that we are here..." The Lord has selected this exact group of ladies to journey together through His word...
Closing song and prayer...
Dorothy praying for the group...
Ending with our five-part declaration of faith...
Saying our goodbyes...
...but wait, what is Dorothy doing?
Ah...making a record of what each lady will bring for our end-of-year party next week...
These ladies are leaders in the church...and that is evidenced in some way each week that we meet together...
Elida, Nancy and Dorothy discussing with Denise what will be needed...
What a trooper!
Wow! I will miss these ladies and am disappointed to miss the end-of-year party! But it is good to know that the Lord is doing a good work in the lives of each of them and that He will continue to use us to bless them to be a blessing to the ladies in their individual congregations...
