"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Last Week in Kibera...

Last week was our second week of our study on the Holy Spirit...we were pleased to have a 'full house' this week...and the ladies are even beginning to arrive earlier!  We always start with about 15 minutes of praise/worship and a time of prayer...
Then Denise spent a few minutes reviewing some of last week's teaching since many of the ladies were not there as well as saying a few words of introduction about "Who is The Holy Spirit?"
She wanted to emphasize that the Holy Spirit is a person...the 3rd person of the Trinity...too often we think of Him as an ethereal being, a myth or ghostly shadow.
Rose and Linet
Susan taught the first section "The Holy Spirit is a divine person within the Trinity"...as she struggled with some of the concepts we realized this study will be a challenge for all the ladies...
Rachel, Patricia and Christine
As part of Susan's teaching, she had the ladies read various scriptures included in the hand out which clearly reveal the existence of Father, Son and Spirit as three distinct persons...
Sarah, Linet and Josephine
Emily joined us a few minutes late, with Emmanuel in tow!
After Denise jumped in to clarify some of the points from Susan's portion that seemed unclear to the ladies, Rose continued the lesson with "The Holy Spirit is a Person"
She shared with us that the Holy Spirit has a personality composed of intellect, emotions and will...
Rose then divided the group into two smaller groups to study together...
Monica, Josephine, Sarah and Patricia
First they looked up scriptures which describe the Names and Nature of the Holy Spirit...
...they were encouraged to discuss and share the answers they each found...
...it was encouraging to watch the interaction and even excitement as they made new insights!
Denise and Rose alternated between Group 1 and Group 2 to answer questions and encourage the ladies...
Josephine (in the red below) is a natural leader...
...then they spent some time looking up scripture which highlighted some of the Symbols of the Holy Spirit...
Salome joined us for the first time this week...she seemed to prefer working independently!
...and little Emmanuel kept himself busy looking through his mama's Bible!

Christine is emerging as a natural leader...
...here she is surrounded by the other ladies as she is sharing her discoveries with the others...
This type of interactive study really helps to internalize the information...

Here is a shot of both groups...
...then they rejoined the bigger group for a time of discussion...
Christine was the spokesperson for her group and shared some of the insights they learned...
 Finally little Emmanuel fell asleep...
We always end the meeting with a time of worship and prayer...
I love this sweet expression on Grace's face as she listens to the singing and praying!
The presence of the Holy Spirit was felt by all...
Christine led us in praising the Lord...

Then Patricia closed our meeting with fervent prayers!
We love embracing one another after spending time in learning, singing and praying!
Look who I found by the toilets!
Yikes!  These boys cannot be older than 5 or 6...playing with fire?!?!
We found a new place for our debriefs - directly across the road...
...this week debrief was a bit intense as we went over time and were also challenged to be able to clearly teach some complex concepts...
We also spent some time deciding how to break down the teaching for week 3...
We are off to a good start and praying that the Holy Spirit will continue to shine a light to reveal the precious gems of truth contained in God's Word!
