"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Discipleship Class at St. Catherine's

Irene and I have been going to St. Catherine's every 3 weeks since Twyla left in April...we have been building on the foundation Twyla set when she taught them about "Two Trees"...
Anne signing into the attendance book
Before moving into praise and worship, Irene asked one of the kids to pray...Sharon volunteered.

Then she asked the kids to share something God had done in their lives in the past 3 weeks since we saw them...
Faith and Jessica

She invited the kids to share in Swahili, or even their mother tongue, which launched a discussion on Irene's mother tongue...as it turns out one girl, Rhoda, is from the same tribe as Irene - Kamba.
Rhoda is a bit shy
Then Irene shared about how, even though she had no breakfast, she was able to beat everyone in her class in Algebra!
Charles shared he had been in touch with some of the kids upcountry who are on their mid-term break...he brought greetings from them.
Erick has grown!
Irene then invited the kids to lead us in praise and worship songs...first up was Jane.
I love watching and hearing them praise God!
Then Dorice led us in a praise song...
What/who is Shedrick looking at?   Ah - we have eavesdroppers!  Can you see him?
Shedrick, Zebedaio, Tobias, Geoffrey
Irene leading our 3rd praise song...
Then Faith led a worship song...
Faith, Jessica and Michael

Then the 'other' Faith led a worship song...
Irene then prayed to begin our session...
She first found out who had not been with us before - there were 5...
Then she asked someone to share what we had been learning...
 Everyone kept quiet...
Irene asked who knew about the Fruit of the Spirit...
...that got them all talking as we listed all 9.
Sharon explaining the Tree of Life
Then Irene explained about the Tree of Wounding...
Suddenly Anne moved from her seat to sit next to Michael...whats going on???...
Lots of laughs and giggles as it came to light that Anne had taken candy from Faith and handed off to Michael...
What is in his hand under the desk?
Irene "okay, let's get back to our lesson!"...
See the sucker?
This is Faith - she seems to be handling the theft with grace!
Last time we were with them all the kids had committed to practice one of the 9 fruits of the Spirit...
Irene gave them a minute to think of how to share about their experience...
Jessica shared first about practicing the ability to trust...she tried and then was betrayed and 'went back to square one'...
Then Dorice shared about practicing the fruit of peace...it has been hard!
 Neema chose to practice faithfulness...
Sharon shared about practicing patience
Irene gave each kid her full attention...
I call this her listening face
She wrote down each one as the kids shared
Charles shared that he was practicing the fruit of self control...
Leonida shared a story about practicing kindness...
Erick (along with several of the boys) chose self control...
While practicing kindness, Anne had a very funny experience involving Shedrick and a pencil...
After making everyone laugh, she became self conscious!
Irene then reminded the kids about John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
She then closed us in prayer based on the scripture and reminding us that it is only through Jesus that we can produce the fruit of the Spirit.

It was a great session, with lots of participation from the kids...what a rich time of discovery as the kids shared of their struggles and victories!
