Just for fun...
Just for fun, I want to introduce you to my new friend, Rachel. She is a 19 year old college student from Tennessee. She is loads of fun and loves an adventure. Being a bit timid, I thoroughly enjoyed gallivanting around town with her!
This was a cool building and I thought it would be fun to shoot a picture of Rachel in front of it - but that matatu (14 passenger mini-van that is the main mode of public transportation in Nairobi) decided to back into my shot! Oh well...
Every day, we found a fun and new place to eat. On our first day out we found the Blue Plate Cafe...the seating was upstairs...can you see the bustling streets of Nairobi through the window?

This place was way cool - and my personal favorite...it was situated in an enclosed market...there were a series of tiny cafes...the meat is grilled outside, so they go to the kitchen for your ugali, chipates, greens, etc...then carry your plate outside to put the meat onto it! I had goat... deeelious! Behind me is the walkway...and to the left of the photo is where the meat is grilled.

One day we visited the orphanage where Rachel worked last year...this little guy was an infant last time Rachel saw him! Below are the kids she lived with at the orphanage - they were at a rally so we drove to see them...can you see Rachel's blond head and white arm in the swarm? I LOVED meeting the children...I was just grinning the whole time we were there - which was way too short!
The picture below was actually taken on a day when Amanda (in the middle) took me out to look for an apartment...we met Denise, William and Rachel in town...Denise snapped this photo...
And here we all are saying goodbye to the Taylors (remember them...I did a blog entry called "the Taylors came to visit"?) Left to right are Rachel, me, Tabitha, Maggie, Donna, Denise, William and Pete. Steve Taylor is not in the photo cuz he was taking the picture!
Here is Rachel with Joy - Joy is an 'age mate' of Rachel's...and has her own business making jewelry. She came to the house to teach a couple of ladies how to make necklaces - but that is another blog entry! We fell in love with Joy (her name suits her!)...she just exudes the love of Christ and has a powerful and uplifting testimony. I am always encouraged by her!
