"Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."
Isaiah 6:8

This week's Joseph study was about Discernment and Wisdom...

Jacinta was one of the first to arrive...
The early birds sign in - then we began the meeting with a word of prayer...
The kids decided not to wait for the others to arrive...
Sharon, Quintar and Jacinta...
Denise began by writing on the board; scripture for today plus the words Discernment and Wisdom
We spent some minutes discussing what each word meant...then began to read the passages...
Rodgers looking up the passage
Jacinta is a good reader
Each one read about 10 verses since there were many verses and few kids!
 Jacinta was first...
 Then Sharon...
Quintar helping Sharon keep her place
Apparently this is the girls' side!
...and the boys' side!
Clinton, Rodgers and Evans
The passage for today covered the dreams Joseph interpreted while in jail...
...one for the cup bearer, one for the baker and one for pharaoh
 Denise even took a turn!
Denise had the kids put themselves in Joseph's place as he was used by God to interpret the dreams.
Apparently Rodgers caught me 'shooting' them!
First the cup bearer - whose interpretation was favorable...he would be restored to his 'office' or position with the king (or pharaoh)
Dorothy and Jacinta
But - how would he feel giving 'bad news' to the baker, whose head would be taken from him in 3 days!
Ishmael went to get his Bible - it is a BIG one!
I love the way she draws the kids into the story - helping them to imagine what it must have been like to be Joseph...
She helped them to see that Joseph could speak with confidence because he knew it was God who was interpreting the dreams and not him...
As the cup bearer was leaving to return to the pharaoh Joseph begged him not to forget him...
Sharon and Miriam show up late - unusual!
Clinton reading a passage
But - two FULL years went by...how must Joseph have felt to be forgotten by the very man he had helped so much?
Reuben looking dubious
After the king has a disturbing dream and can find no one to interpret it for him - THEN the cup bearer remembers Joseph!
Sharon taking notes...
Joseph is cleaned up and brought to the king...how must he have felt to be taken from the prison to the presence of the king?
Cute!
The kids imagine how they would feel...some excited, some scared, some nervous...
Clinton, Sharon and Miriam...
Miriam is quite studious
Again Joseph used discernment to interpret the king's dreams...
Evans finding his place...
He told the king that Egypt would have 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of famine...
Who is planning to finish school?
But - then he also shared what would need to be done...find someone wise to store up the grain during the 7 years of plenty so that during the 7 years of famine the people would not starve...
How many want to help people after completing education?
Joseph used Wisdom to make application from what he had discerned.  Denise helped the kids to see that the discernment as well as the wisdom came directly from God...
and who has chosen a vocation?
Joseph knew that it was God's discernment and God's wisdom; therefore he could speak with confidence even to the king of Egypt!
Sharon returning
Denise then spent some time talking to the kids about the wisdom of long-term planning.
Dorothy!  Yes, that is a trash heap behind her...
First we defined what long term planning is...for teens planning is usually not beyond the next week!
But - she asked how many kids were planning to finish school...they all raised their hands!
Who thinks Joanna should come to the youth camp in August?
So - she helped them see that even that was long-term planning...
Felix reading from Ephesians - by mistake!
Then she asked for a passage in Phillipians to be read...Felix volunteered...
Oops!  He was in Ephesians...but "teacher" Denise came to the rescue and helped him find the correct passage!
I loved watching her encourage him as he read...
Then she helped Ishmael find another passage she wanted read...
I love the way all things are a group effort!
I think the kids have absorbed about as much as they are going to!
Time for prayers...Evans is good to always close the session with prayer...
We thoroughly enjoyed the kids...as always!  By the end of the session we had 13 in attendance...
