This week in Kibera

This week the kids were in 'our room' again...but as we approached they were already packing up to move...we feel bad that we 'evict' them every week :( but they don't seem to mind :)
Oh boy!  An opportunity to run during class time!
Carrying books, papers and chairs to another room...
Meanwhile washing needs to be done...just a few of the sights on the grounds of the church where we meet...
After getting the room set, it was time for praise & worship...
The teaching this week was entitled "The Blessing of Adversity"
Adversity = trials, difficulties, suffering or troubles...
Adversity can be a situation, a circumstance or an enemy...
Josephine translating, Dorothy listening
Denise teaching!
Group shot - by 11:30 most of the ladies have arrived
The ladies read aloud from an English Bible and then from a Swahili Bible

Denise following in her own Bible!
Susan answering the first question "what came out of your heart the last time you faced a trial?"
 Susan needs cataract surgery...

I love this shot of Rose...she has become a friend :)
 Adversity reveals your fear...
Group shot
 Adversity reveals your true friends...
Adversity builds character and produces fruit
As she shared each aspect that adversity reveals, Denise showed from God's word His answer to each one...
Finally - Adversity reveals God's Glory!

Nancy filling in the blanks on the hand out
Josephine listening & contemplating

This teaching was sobering and left us all deep in thought...
 Except for Elijah of course!

Stella came in late so Susan is helping her :)
I just love this shot...
Yup he's awake!  He has become my friend and even smiles now :)
 Lovin' the phone!
Denise and Josephine really work well together...I love the growing friendship I am seeing there!
 He is so busy!

At the end of the table is a guest, Bendera, invited by Nancy...
 Time for standing...and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g!
Prayer time was a bit different this week...
...we each asked God to to show us what He is doing in the midst of adversities we are facing.
 Meanwhile baby Elijah went exploring!
He found some friends outside that he was chattering to...and that is a rock in his hand :)
After the study everyone embraces, saying goodbye and chatting...

Dorothy shared with Denise how today's teaching was an answer to prayer as she has been working with a young woman in her church who is facing severe trials right now...
Linet & Denise
Denise and Susan
Denise & Dorothy
Rachel & Elijah
Rose and Josephine

Dorothy & Lucy

What a great teaching and a whole new look at the place of suffering and trials in our lives.  These ladies are no strangers to adversity so I believe this message from God's word will truly make a difference in their lives and especially in the lives of those they lead.

To God be the Glory!
