Visiting Rose :)

We left home around 8:30, took a bus into Kibera and then waited for Rose to meet us.  She then led us to her home...

After a rigorous trek down down down some steep, dusty, narrow and sometimes slippery paths (carrying about 15 pound bags each!) we crossed the 'river' (aka sewer) only to climb up a small mountain...  But it was worth it to reach our destination!

As it turns out, I have taken several pictures in the past of this church set on a hillside!

Photo taken from St. Catherine's boy's dorm in May of this year
View of Kibera from the hillside on the way up...
Rose & Denise climbing the hill ;)
 Rose's shamba (garden)...very nice!
The building sits alone...I have always thought of it as a beacon of hope - what a privilege to know the occupants and to be able to visit it!  :)
After a lovely visit Rose and her husband Boniface (Boni) posed for this pic...thanks!

 Here is the view :)
I have marked the St. Catherine's School to the right (in yellow), the girl's dorm in the center of the photo (pink letters) and boy's dorm to the left (blue letters)

Then they showed us their newest venture - rabbits!
It is obvious much work goes into keeping these critters healthy...Rose & Boni learn by asking people who raise rabbits, and by googling!

 Kid's Sunday school area...
They have lived and ministered here for the past 5 years...at one time (before the post-election violence in 2008) they were outgrowing this space (which holds at least 50)...but now there is much suspicion and people keep to their own so the numbers have dwindled down to about 10...we are praying that tensions will ease, trust will develop and God's people will come together again...
