Day 2 - Registration, dinner, and 'ice-breaker'

On our second day we traveled by motorbike and matatu to nearby Rongo to book our return tickets to Nairobi...then back to Teacher George's for the first official day of camp.  On the way to the school I passed the kitchen and our two wonderful cooks, Margaret and Elizabeth...
Pauline was the first 'camper' to arrive...she attended the Christian Mission to Learners (CML) camps for years and decided she could NOT miss this first (of many) camps sponsored and organized by members of a new ministry birthed from CML and comprised of kids discipled through the CML ministry.
Bevaline, who has also attended the past camps, was called into service to do the registration...
...meanwhile the first arrivals (kids from St. Catherine's) assembled in the classroom just to relax.
Registration begins!  These kids are from St. Catherine's in Nairobi, but are currently staying in a town very close to the camp venue so were able to join us...what a blessing it was to have them with us!

Norene, Sharon (signing in) and Miriam
Norene (who we had not met before)

Time to just hang out and, of course, take pictures!
Miriam, Denise, Charles and Philip
 Sharon grabbed my camera...self portrait?
Thanks to Sharon I got to be in some of the photos...
Me, Susan, Denise (photo bombing!), Miriam, Mercy and Norene
 Bev jumped into this shot...
This one almost looks like it could be a family portrait!
Denise, Pauline, Bev, Philip; in front Miriam, Sharon, Me and Norene
I don't like to use flash so these photos of dinner being served are a bit dark...
Job, Elizabeth and Margaret
Emmaculate and Pauline sharing dinner and trying to keep warm!
Charles goofing off for the camera
...then we spent some time getting to know each other by sharing names and a little bit about each one of us...including our expectations for the camp experience.
St. Catherine kids
Several youth that had attended previous camps were also present...

Beatrice, Emmaculate, June and John
The kids enjoyed sharing and hearing about each other...and very soon forged new friendships!
Our first day together was a good one...and set the tone for the remainder of the camp.  Fun, laughter, and a desire to grow closer to God and to each other.
